Prof Dr James Thackeray is a Heisenberg Professor of Translational Cardiovascular Molecular Imaging in the Department of Nuclear Medicine at Hannover Medical School in Hannover, Germany. He received his PhD from the University of Ottawa Heart Institute in Ottawa, Canada. In 2012 he relocated to Germany as a postdoctoral fellow and subsequently Principal Investigator and W2 Professor (Associate). He leads a dynamic international team focused on applying radionuclide imaging to gain mechanistic insights into the progression of cardiovascular disease and to optimize delivery of novel reparative and regenerative therapies. His research has been recognized with numerous awards including the Herman Blumgart Award from the SNMMI Cardiovascular Council (2023) and the George von Hevesy Prize of the German Nuclear Medicine Society (2019).
