Dr. Michelle D. Tallquist is a Professor in Medicine at the John A Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. She is also Chair of the graduate program in Cell and Molecular Biology. Dr. Tallquist received her undergraduatedegree in Chemistry (B.A.) from Kalamazoo College. In 1997, she was awarded a Ph.D. in Immunology from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN for work with Dr. Larry Pease on the recognitions of MHC complexes recognized as alloantigens.
Dr. Tallquist expanded her research focus by investigating the role of PDGF receptors in development in the lab of Dr. Phil Soriano at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washing. Her work as a postdoctoral fellow garnered extramural support from the American Cancer Society and NIH. In 2002, Dr. Tallquist was recruited as an assistant professor to the Department of Molecular Biology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX where she became an associate professor in 2008. In 2012, she accepted a position at the University of Hawaii at Manoa John A. Burns Medical School and was recently promoted to Professor in Medicine. Dr. Tallquist’s research program focuses on the fundamental role of fibroblasts in development and disease. She has made several seminal observations about key signaling pathways in fibroblast development and function. Her work has been awarded grants from the American Heart Association and the National Institutes of Health (NHLBI).
