Lead Scientist responsible for the development and validation of Mouse models associated with Clinically associated Rare and Orphan Diseases
Aamir graduated with a PhD in Microbial Molecular Genetics (University of Sheffield, UK) and has 25+ years of expertise in murine molecular genetics and 30+ years of expertise in molecular biology and genome manipulation. His postdoctoral training at the University of California, the University of Illinois and at the Jackson Laboratory focused on genetic regulation of transcription factors, posttranslational methylation associated with nutrient sensing, and the cloning and characterization of novel mouse genes regulating T cell mediated transplantation rejection. He was an NIH-funded Assistant Professor at Louisiana State University and Core Director of a Murine Metabolic Phenotyping Core for over 10 years investigating how natural genetic variation between mouse strains impacts dietary preference, metabolism and insulin resistance and the role of dietary supplements in regulating these interactions. He has coauthored 51 publications to date, organized and chaired scientific sessions of international meetings and served on the mammalian gene nomenclature and the mouse Chromosome 2 committees. Since returning to the Jackson Laboratory, Aamir has developed and leads the Rare and Orphan Disease mouse model development portfolio and managed the completion of over 200 new mouse models in the last five years using CRISPR/Cas9, Embryonic stem cell and transgenic strategies.
